The article presents a new laboratory parameter in assessment and diagnosis of anemia — «soluble transferrin receptor (sTfR)». The authors consider its importance for assessment of anemia and iron deficiency in Anemia of Cronic Disease (ACD).
New clinical situations, in which significant and moderate increase in serum sTfR in patient blood, and also decrease in sTfR level are seen, are presented.
It is concluded, that determination of sTfR concentration will be a more important parameter in assessment of iron status, than ferritin determination.
