Methods of lowdensity lipoprotein cholesterol determination
Determination of LDL-C levels claims special attention of laboratory diagnostics specialists in view of published in 2001 decision of the American National Cholesterol Education Program (NCEP) experts to base IHD risk assess-ment on LDL-C, and not on total blood serum cholesterol levels. The article briefly describes advantages and disadvan-tages of different methods for LDL-C determination, both conventional (Friedewald method, precipitation methods) and novel techniques, offered by laboratories in the last decade (direct homogenous methods).
