The paper summarizes the Third Report of the National Cholesterol Education Program, NCEP, which emphasizes the importance of controlling lipid parameters for primary and secondary CHD prevention. Such approach shows that personnel of clinical-diagnostic laboratories should pay special attention to lipid tests. At the same time such an approach raises a question: «What level of cholesterol should be called ‘normal’ in the test form?»
