Laboratory diagnosis in geriatrics (abstract)
Presently elderly people form absolute majority of patients. One cannot discuss the improvement of medical service for this part of population, avoiding the question of adequate laboratory diagnostics. In elderly people diagnostic significance of many laboratory parameters changes, so they should rather be considered from the point of view of individual prognosis for the patient. By examination of elderly people organizational aspects of laboratory diagnostics, accuracy assurance of laboratory investigations, use of stable, technically reliable analytical methods, as well as quality control are of great importance. Assessment of laboratory results with consideration of geriatric changes can become a new aspect of laboratory diagnostics.
